According to statistics, nearly 94,000 people applied nationwide; for the first time since the exam was introduced in 2004, the number of applicants exceeded 90,000. Among them, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Guangdong each had over 5,000 applicants. To date, 128,000 people across the country have obtained the professional qualification as registered safety engineers, with 88,000 of them currently registered. They mainly work in coal mines, non-coal mines, construction sites, enterprises dealing with hazardous materials, as well as institutions engaged in research on work safety, safety assessment agencies, and firms of registered safety engineers. They play an increasingly significant role in work safety management, related technologies, and consulting services. The ***Notice on Further Strengthening Work Safety in Enterprises*** stipulates that the main responsible persons and work safety managers in enterprises must undergo strict assessments; they must hold professional qualification certificates to be able to take up their positions. Measures for regulating professional work safety service agencies should be established to ensure the professionalism, independence, and objectivity of the work carried out by such agencies. It is also understood that since the Regulations on Registered Safety Engineers were submitted by the State Administration of Work Safety to the relevant legal department in 2009, opinions from relevant departments at all levels as well as local legal departments have been sought. Currently, legislative efforts are being accelerated, which will further promote the development of work related to registered safety engineers.
