I completed the interlocking for an entire project, but I still haven’t fully understood the function of these three buttons. Reset button: It includes interlock reset and reset for certain solenoids; the reset occurs once the cause of the interlock activation has been removed and all conditions are met. But those interlocks need to be reset. The interlocks of motors generally need to be reset, as they won’t function without that; of course, it’s also possible to go to the site to perform the reset. As for the others, how should it be determined? For the project I’m working on, the patent holders for certain components insist on the use of reset and set buttons; I don’t agree with this, but it’s also not entirely unreasonable. Set button: What is its purpose? It’s used to check whether interlocking is working or to trigger an emergency action; if there is a need for emergency triggering in the process, then this makes sense. But many interlocks have only one cause and one result; then what is the purpose of setting them? Bypass button: To sum up, the main considerations are still the process requirements and testing needs; I’m not sure if there are any other reasons. I’ve written it down more or less; the main goal is to clarify these three types of buttons. I hope experts can offer some additional guidance!
Is the bypass button used to disconnect the instrument from the logic during equipment maintenance, so as to prevent interlocks from occurring during repairs?
The reset button is used to reset the system after process or equipment interlocks are activated; once the process and equipment systems are back below the interlock levels and are ready to operate, the interlocked equipment and instruments can then function properly and the system can be started up. Without resetting, the interlocked instruments and equipment remain in interlocked state and it is not possible to start the system. It’s not entirely clear as to how to set it. The bypass button is used when both the process and the equipment are operating normally, but there is a fault in the interlock instruments. In such cases, to avoid an unnecessary shutdown due to the instrument failure, the interlock can be disabled using the bypass button, thereby allowing maintenance of the instruments; once they are functioning properly again, normal operation can be resumed
Setting it should be the same as forcing an output!
Setting and bypassing are sometimes used together; resetting is intended for operation, as it’s impossible to function without resetting.
