I currently have a tank with a capacity of 54 cubic meters, and I’m not sure whether to use vertical mixing or horizontal mixing. The viscosity of the material produced is slightly higher than that of water. Could you please provide some advice based on the current practices in China as well as considerations related to maintenance? Thank you all!
Theoretically, side mixing can ensure uniform mixing of the material from all directions, but considering installation and cost, vertical mixing is the better choice. On the one hand, manufacturers pay close attention when installing side mixers, with the sealing issue being of primary importance; even the slightest leakage can lead to inevitable disputes. Moreover, at least three side mixers are required for one tank. While many manufacturers do a decent job with this, it is best to avoid using such mixers if possible. If vertical mixing is used and mixing issues are a concern, opting for more blades can be a good solution; such systems are available in China today, are exported abroad as well, and are easy to maintain.

The initial cost of top-mounted mixing may be slightly higher than that of side-mounted mixing, but the subsequent maintenance costs are low. The initial cost of side-mounted mixing isn’t necessarily lower either; domestic machine seals cannot be used, while imported ones are too expensive and are prone to failure, requiring regular replacement. If the mixer is well-designed, this isn’t a problem; but if it isn’t, replacing the seal also requires emptying the container. Please consider this carefully.
