Issues regarding the diaphragm of mechanical pumps

The diaphragms (thin stainless steel plates) are connected to the two halves of the coupling using bolts in a staggered pattern, with each set of diaphragms consisting of several plates stacked together. Diaphragm couplings can compensate for the axial, radial, and angular misalignments that occur between the driving machine and the driven machine due to manufacturing errors, installation errors, load-induced deformation, and temperature changes. Diaphragm couplings use metal diaphragms to connect the driving and driven machines in order to transmit torque; they offer advantages such as elastic vibration damping, no noise, and the need for no lubrication, making them an ideal alternative to gear couplings and conventional couplings today. When a diaphragm coupling is in operation, axial, radial, and angular displacements of the machine cause the diaphragm to deform in a wavy manner; one part of the diaphragm stretches while another part compresses, resulting in elastic deformation. This allows the coupling to have a strong capacity to compensate for relative displacements between the two shafts.
