Function of the balance disc: It is a component that uses the pressure difference between the gases on its two sides to balance the axial force. The balance disc only balances a portion of the axial force, with the remaining axial force being borne by the thrust bearings. The thrust disc, also known as a thrust plate, is used to transfer the force that remains after balance by the balance disc to the thrust bearings in order to counteract it. Simply put, they are parts that transmit force. When a centrifugal compressor is operating normally, the axial force always points toward the low-pressure side. The thrust block that bears this axial force is called the main thrust block. When the compressor starts, the force of the airflow acts in the direction of the high-pressure side, and this force causes axial movement of that high-pressure side. To prevent such axial movement, another thrust block is installed; this block is located opposite to the main thrust block and is referred to as the auxiliary thrust block. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that “the primary and secondary thrust positions are on the outside.” The magnitude of the balance pipe pressure difference reflects the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the compressor.
