Hello everyone, I have a question. I have an undergraduate degree, and I worked for three years at a company established by a research institute at a university, where my main task was to work on process packages. After that, I moved to a provincial chemical engineering design institute and worked there for one year. At first, there wasn’t much work there, and the salary was quite low; it was a frustrating experience. So I decided to look for another job. I applied to many companies, and several of them were interested in me. But now that I’m familiar with the work at this design institute, there’s more work to do, and I have to work overtime every day. As a result, I haven’t applied to other places. Still, the salary remains low, and the payment for the work I do won’t come until next year. When looking for jobs, I sent my resume to the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and a team working on coal-to-olefins projects. A few months later, they asked me to solve some problems, and now they say I can go for an interview. The competition ratio is 1:3. My main role will likely be to work on process packages. The head of this team also used to work at major chemical engineering design institutes before coming to the institute. I would like to ask whether I should go for this interview. Is it promising for an undergraduate to work at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics? What are the prospects in the field of coal-to-olefins? Also, there are family reasons: my wife works at the same company as me; she has a higher educational qualification than me, and her salary is decent. She works in a company located in our province, close to our hometown. Please give me some advice
I think you’d better not change jobs and do your current job well. What’s important is that you and your wife work at the same company, work hard, and earn as much money as possible. It’s pretty good. The low salary is because you have not been working at the design institute for very long; as time goes by, and with your skills, your salary will naturally increase.
