In our facility, the range of the flow meter does not match the range shown on the DCS; the maximum value indicated by the flow meter is 40, while the maximum value displayed on the DCS is 20! A colleague adjusted it earlier; I asked him and he told me, but I still don’t understand. Could someone please provide more specific step-by-step instructions?

The range of the field instruments should be set to match that of the DCS side. As for whether to choose 40 or 20, it depends on the process conditions; for example, if the normal operating flow rate is 20, then it’s obvious that the configuration on the DCS side is incorrect. The measurement range of field instruments is generally specified as technical requirements at the time of purchase; these requirements are provided to the supplier, who sets the instrument’s measurement range before it leaves the factory. As a result, errors on the DCS side are more likely to occur.
