Currently, 50 million cubic meters of hydrogen are released each year, representing a usable resource. It is now planned to set up another air separation unit to directly produce synthetic ammonia, with a capacity of 20,000 tons per year. Questions: 1. Look for methanol-based nitrogen fertilizer production systems on used equipment, but be cautious when it comes to air separation units. I think you could consider using small pressure swing adsorption nitrogen generation systems to see if that reduces costs; in any case, used equipment should be taken into consideration.
I wonder what the purity of the hydrogen is? Is purification necessary? There should be no problems with the design and operation of this project; it’s just unclear whether equipment of such a small size still exists today. At the same time, if the oxygen separation unit has no other uses, it is recommended to use a constant-pressure fixed-bed gas generation system that does not produce purge gas, thereby supplying nitrogen directly into the system (the cost is estimated to be lower, but this needs to be verified through calculations) in order to balance the nitrogen level. This approach is technically mature, but it increases production volume; since all the purge gas is recovered, several additional units are required. It differs from the existing small-scale nitrogen fertilizer production processes, but the issue is not serious. However, applying for funding for such a project might present difficulties. Is the project urgent? We can do it, but I need to check with my supervisor to see if they’re interested. Hehe
I’m not sure about the purity of the hydrogen. If its purity is very high, considering selling it to nearby chemical companies might be an option; however, it’s not cost-effective to use such high-purity hydrogen for ammonia production!
The poster should conduct thorough research on this project and consider carefully finding an organization or individual to carry out a feasibility study; Moreover, hydrogen is not only used for ammonia synthesis; it can also be used to produce many chemical products.
