The DCS used in our facility is Yokogawa’s CS3000. Recently, the operation station was moved (the original one was 50 meters away from the control station, while the current one is 150 meters away). The computers there often crash, sometimes multiple times a day. What could be the cause? ? ? ?
150 meters, do you use regular network cables for communication? Still use fiber optic?
In the case of a freeze, it is necessary to determine whether it is the CS3000 software that has frozen or the operating system. 150 meters is a bit long, but it should be fine as long as the cables and street work are done properly. If it is indeed a problem with the CS3000, you can check its directory for fault logs. I think LZ should check the issues with the computer itself, such as the motherboard, hard drive, and problems related to electrical leakage and grounding.
I tend to agree with Moderator Ha’s view; for ordinary network cables, the distance should be within 100 meters, otherwise a switch should be added along the way or fiber optic communication should be used. There are many reasons for system crashes – some are related to software issues, while others stem from hardware problems in the operator station. It’s advisable to first check the system processes in order to preliminarily determine the cause of the fault, distinguishing between hardware and software problems as well as communication-related issues, and then conduct a more in-depth analysis based on the observed symptoms.
I’m very concerned about this. I’ve been using the Yokogawa CS3000 system for almost 2 years now, and I haven’t encountered this issue yet! Thank you for bringing it to my attention!!!
The CS3000 operation station and control station communicate via VNET; by ensuring the quality of the cables and connectors as well as minimizing interference, a distance of 185 meters can be supported. Therefore, a distance of 150 meters between the operation station and the control station should not pose any problems.
