Dear sea friends: Our boiler’s economizer often leaks, with the leakage points mainly located at the elbows. Do you have any effective solutions to address this issue or reduce the frequency of leaks? ?
Was the thinning severe during manufacturing?
If the leak in the elbow is caused by wear and flow leakage, check whether the distance from it to the furnace wall of the tail flue is too large. If it is, hot smoke flows through at high speed, carrying solid particles that can cause wear and lead to tube rupture. Similarly, a denser distribution of internal tubes leads to increased flue gas resistance, which can also easily cause tube failure. (For reference only)
It is possible that the corrosion is caused by an excessively low feedwater temperature in the economizer; it is recommended to increase the inlet water temperature. It could also be due to wear and tear… It is suggested to install stainless steel anti-wear covers. For future modifications, considering switching to a box-type heat pipe economizer would be a good option – the bends in such an economizer do not come into contact with flue gases, which prevents them from being directly exposed to the scouring effects of those gases. Additionally, the heat transfer efficiency of heat pipes helps to prevent or reduce corrosion caused by low-temperature dew points. We can discuss this further if there’s a chance
The original poster didn’t clarify the operating conditions; what is the dust content in the flue gas? Is it caused by corrosion or erosion? The former is likely due to improper material selection, while the latter may be because the gas flow rate is too high. Personal opinions are for reference only.
Leakages in the economizer are usually caused by severe wear; accordingly, protective shingles or ultrasonic metal spraying are installed based on the actual conditions of the plant. It is then necessary to check whether there are large-sized particles in the fly ash, and technical modifications are carried out as appropriate
Regarding the issue of water deoxidation and oxygen corrosion on the inner wall of the economizer, it is recommended to control the operating temperature and pressure of the deoxidizer properly; the water temperature should be maintained at 104 degrees Celsius, or even above 100 degrees Celsius. We have encountered the same problem as you, and by controlling the operation of the deaerator, we have been able to maintain stable operation for many years.
