The pipes and equipment I’ve come across in the past were usually made of materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel; fiberglass was rarely used. Today, I met a manufacturer who explained the various advantages of fiberglass, such as its corrosion resistance. They have also produced fiberglass pipes that can withstand pressures of 60 kilograms, and with higher-quality materials, these pipes can tolerate temperatures up to 200°C. So, in what types of installations is fiberglass commonly used these days? What are the maximum values for pressure and temperature? Is it reliable during use? Thank you
Our company has a PCL3 storage tank; it is highly corrosive and irritating. The material used for this tank is fiberglass, which does provide decent corrosion resistance. However, it’s best to use such tanks in fixed locations – moving them frequently is dangerous, as their strength isn’t comparable to that of stainless steel
Based on our experience, a temperature of 200°C is no problem, but care must be taken regarding stress in the piping – there should be no bending stress. However, with a load of 60 KG, we don’t have any experience with such conditions. Generally, ANSI 150LB or PN10 is used, as these involve loose flange connections, and it’s not easy to handle high pressures in such cases.
