Do all drain plugs on the equipment in production operation need to be fitted with plug caps or blind flanges? For example, is it necessary to use additives for the drainage in water systems?
Additives are used to prevent leaks; in theory, they should be added in all cases. However, in practice, aside from those manufacturers with excellent management systems, others simply leave them unadded as it is common practice. However, all of them in our factory are equipped with blind flanges.
When considering the toxicity of the medium, if it is water, it is advisable to use a pipe cap or plug, but it is not necessary. But for toxic and flammable media, it is best to use blind plates, which provide sealing and prevent leaks
Anyway, all the designs provided by the design institute include blind plates
Is it required by regulations to add it? Is it compliant with safety management requirements?
I think it’s better not to add it if the valve doesn’t leak; it’s too troublesome to use it – you have to remove it first. But ordinary valves tend to leak when opened and closed. If such a feature is available in the design, it would be useful indeed
