When performing a comprehensive analysis of the gas exiting the tower, it is necessary to determine the methanol content in it. However, since the temperature of this gas is high, sampling is usually done after passing it through a sampling cooler. But once the gas is cooled, some of the methanol condenses and accumulates in liquid form inside the bulb. Chromatographic analysis deals only with the gas phase; how can we ensure the accuracy of the methanol content values obtained from such analyses?
The alcohol content in our off-tower gas analysis is only 1.47%, which is much lower than the designed value of 4.9%. Is it due to poor reaction performance or an error in the analysis?

Check the modulus and compare it based on the circuit pressure and the amount of vented gas, in order to identify the cause promptly. Logically, the gas passing through the synthesis tower should not be below 4.9%. If it drops to the levels you mentioned, I’m afraid it won’t be possible to maintain the bed temperature.
Try heating it in a water bath; we use this method to measure the benzene content as well
The components of the analyzed column are those after the analysis separator! The temperature won’t be very high, around 40 I guess; it won’t reach the level you’re talking about!
