Please share your experiences with total sulfur analyzers – is the lead acetate strip method better or is chromatographic analysis superior? Which method is most commonly used in coal chemical industry?
The choice of analytical method depends on factors such as the sample condition, the component to be analyzed, the range of concentrations, and relevant standard specifications. What are the samples in coal chemical industry? Is it raw coal? Coal slurry? Syngas? Synthetic oil? Let’s clarify the details of the specific analysis before discussing it. The sample gas is purified gas or the gas exiting the desulfurization tower; the lowest measurable range for total sulfur is 0–0.2 PPM. Currently, these are the only two analysis methods used for online monitoring in China.
The tape method is not recommended. Although it is recognized by many companies and institutions, I personally believe it dates back to many years ago; under those conditions, there were no highly sensitive and reliable methods for accurately analyzing trace amounts of sulfur. I think the reliable analysis methods at present are as follows: 1. Chromatography, using an FPD detector for targeted analysis of sulfides ； 2. Ultraviolet fluorescence method: The concentration of sulfur dioxide is determined after combustion in a tubular furnace, and then converted into the concentration of sulfur ； 3. Microcoulometry: after combustion in a tubular furnace, microcoulometric titration is employed.
If the tape method must be used, it shows that the company has done the manual work. Use that product, and prepare to get ripped off.
The bidding has not taken place yet; I need solid reasons to convince my superiors to support me in making design changes. If I do make such changes, I will have to assume certain responsibilities and face associated risks. Therefore, you need to point out the disadvantages of lead acetate, and it would be best to have examples of its use.
