First, excavation is carried out; if the groundwater level is high, dewatering measures may be necessary. A 200mm layer of medium sand should be laid as a cushion before placing the pipe segments in the trench. After that, the medium sand is filled up to an angle of 120 degrees relative to the bottom of the pipe. The pipe segments need to be protected against corrosion, with the level of protection determined by the design (taking into account factors such as the underground soil conditions). During construction, attention must be paid to elevation and coordinates. Partial backfilling can be done before pressure testing (but electric spark testing must be conducted before backfilling, and the test voltage should be determined based on the level of corrosion protection), but areas such as welds must remain exposed. After pressure testing, the weld areas need to be protected against corrosion again, followed by electric spark testing. Backfilling should be compacted in layers, typically with a layer thickness of 450 MM. (Compact both sides simultaneously.) This can be washed with water; specific details can be found in the relevant regulations. Steam is not required, and even small pipe sections can be cleaned using the water used for pressure testing.
