The Ningdong area in Ningxia, Yulin in Shaanxi, and Ordos in Inner Mongolia form an energy and chemical industry triangle with abundant energy resources; these areas constitute the core region of the Ordos Basin’s energy base. The proven coal reserves in these areas account for nearly 30% of the country’s total. The development of the coal bases in northern Shaanxi and Shendong, as well as the Ningdong coal, electricity, and chemical industry complex, as well as the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia oil fields, has all been included in relevant plans. It is also a region with high potential for wind and solar energy in our country: the theoretical wind energy resources amount to over 100 million kilowatts, while the annual solar radiation exceeds 180 watts per square meter. Additionally, there are over 2 million kilowatts of untapped water resources along the main course of the Yellow River in this area. In 2009, the raw coal production in the energy and chemical industry triangle region reached 600 million tons, accounting for 20% of the country’s total production. The Golden Triangle region is located in the heart of our country, enjoying extremely favorable geographical conditions. Railway lines such as the Baolan Line, Ganwu Line, Baozhong Line, and Shenhuang Railway, which serve as major coal transport routes, have been built. The highway networks of Beijing-Tibet, Yinchuan-Qinghai, and Fuzhou-Yinan have been connected to the energy and chemical industry hub, and a comprehensive transportation system that combines railways, highways, aviation, and pipeline networks has taken initial shape and will continue to be improved, laying an important foundation for the large-scale development of the region.
