The air cooler of the hydro-generator has been in use for several years, and no relevant documentation is available. It is now necessary to determine the operating pressure of this air cooler in order to carry out technical modifications. The inlet pressure before the modifications is 0.2 MPa; the drawings specify that a pressure test should be conducted at 0.6 MPa for 30 minutes. I would like to ask whether it is possible to determine its operating pressure range based on this? From the specifications, it seems that the pressure test is to be carried out at twice the operating pressure; in other words, it should be 0.3 MPa. I’m not sure if that’s correct Also, after the technical upgrades, the inlet pressure will increase to around 0.37 MPa. Can it still operate under these conditions?
Last year I came across some information stating that the operating pressure is 0.1 MPa (in fact, it’s a gas that operates at atmospheric pressure), the design pressure is 0.2 MPa, and the test pressure is 0.3 MPa. So, the data from the original poster might not be surprising at all.
The typical test pressure is 1.5 times the working pressure; you can refer to the relevant standards to determine the design pressure at that time
The general test pressure is 1.25 times the design pressure; GB150 can be referred to for this.
As specified in GB150. 1.25 times the test pressure, plus the temperature difference must also be taken into account.
