Could someone explain the characteristics of extractive distillation in UOP? ? ? Thank you!
UOP is really weird; they post things randomly here, and if problems arise it’s related to confidentiality issues; Actually, there’s nothing special about it; the general manufacturing processes such as SED and GTC are similar, with the same principles at work.

The design of UOP is highly sophisticated, and it requires high standards regarding raw materials and operating conditions. The parameters within the towers are closely interrelated; a change in one parameter can trigger successive changes in other parameters. Therefore, adjustments to the feed and solvent amounts must be made slowly, and this demands a high level of skill and experience from the operators. Once operations stabilize, it becomes possible to operate the system without human intervention, as long as there are no fluctuations in the utility systems; SED can be operated in a rather rough manner; it adapts well to changes in conditions, making it suitable for adjustments by Chinese users. Its energy consumption is relatively high, but it remains comfortable to use ; The GTC model is powered by a piston, but it’s still good – it falls somewhere between the UOP and SED models. Each of these three systems has its own characteristics ; In my opinion, for state-owned enterprises, it is better to choose SED first, and then GTC ; For private enterprises, it’s still better to choose UOP, and then GTC ; As for the reason, think about it yourself.
