Metering pump motor running in reverse

What will happen if the motor of a metering pump (with worm gear drive) runs in reverse? Please explain the reason.
The helix angle of a worm is generally very small, less than the friction angle, allowing it to self-lock. Therefore, conventional worm and worm gear transmissions cannot reverse; if the motor reverses, it is very likely to cause equipment failures.
A worm and worm gear transmission cannot transmit power in the reverse direction (from the worm gear to the worm). When the motor is reversed, power still flows from the worm to the worm gear, so there is no problem with that. If there’s a problem, wouldn’t that mean the reducer of the valve can only open the valve but not close it?
