Let’s discuss the flow measurement of viscous substances such as heavy oil and tar. I’d like to know what type of flow meters work best for measuring these fluids. Of course, there are not just these two types of viscous substances; other ones can also be discussed. I know that target flowmeters can be used in such operating conditions; I’m not sure what other products are available.
Mass flow meter, wedge orifice plate, semi-circular orifice plate.
Are there any existing practical application cases, and what are the results of using them? Differential pressure types are not very reliable, especially with things like tar and asphalt, as they cause severe blockages.
Our facility has target flowmeters for measuring tar, but it is necessary to heat the tar storage tanks as well as provide heat tracing for the pipelines in order to ensure accurate measurements.
Are there any existing practical application cases, and what are the results of using them? Differential pressure types are not very reliable, especially with things like tar and asphalt, as they cause severe blockages. We use mass flow meters for our heavy oil, and they work well; previously, gear flow meters (of domestic manufacture) were not effective. In my opinion: mass flow meters, wedge orifice plates, semi-circular orifice plates, (differential pressure type with dual-diaphragm transmission device). Target flow meters, gear pumps, gears, and the like can all be used with liquids of high viscosity. Select based on operating conditions, accuracy, instrument quality, etc
We use a differential pressure flow meter, which utilizes an orifice plate to restrict flow in the pipeline; the flow velocity is determined based on the pressure difference before and after the orifice plate, and from this the flow rate is calculated. It’s okay if your tar has high viscosity, but there should be no visible residues, otherwise it can easily cause blockages.
For measuring high-viscosity fluids such as heavy oil and tar, the following flow meters can be used, but it is important to take appropriate insulation measures. 1. Volume-type flowmeters, such as elliptical gear flowmeters, screw rotor flowmeters, scraper flowmeters, etc ; http://www.shakic.com/cp/product5.htm 2. Wedge flow meter ; http://www.shakic.com/cp/product6.htm 3. Coriolis mass flow meter ; http://www.shakic.com/cp/product9.htm
Please use imported elliptical gear flow meters; they work very well for measuring tar, asphalt, heavy oil, and more! There are also excellent performance records in this area!
