Will ammonium carbonate crystals form in the transformed gas as it passes through the water cooler?
There should be no ammonium carbonate crystals, because the reforming gas contains only CO2 and no NH3 – how could there be ammonium carbonate crystals then?
There will be no ammonium carbonate crystals, as the NH3 content in the shift gas is at the PPM level. The shift gas contains a large amount of water vapor, and when it is cooled to around 40 degrees, a significant amount of liquid water is formed, and ammonia dissolves in this water.

Since coal contains trace amounts of metal elements, during the gas production process, N2 and H2 react with these trace metals to form NH3. This ammonia then reacts with H2O, CO2, or H2S to produce crystals such as ammonium carbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, and ammonium sulfide, which can clog equipment or pipelines.
What the people above said is correct – no ammonium carbonate crystals will form. If the original poster notices white crystals, it is likely due to an issue with the water quality; a high salt content (total solids) in the water can lead to the formation of salt crystals. However, if the water quality is well controlled, this is unlikely to happen.
In short, our company has never encountered ammonium carbonate crystals.

Our gas production uses a counter-flow four-nozzle gasification furnace process (technology from East China University of Science and Technology); the stripping gas from the shift stripper has caused blockages in the flare pipeline several times due to ammonium salt crystallization.
Normally, ammonium carbonate crystals should not form, but this situation may occur if the hot water circulation used for adjustment is based on the addition of ammonia to control the pH value.
