It is felt that the size of any chemical reactor must be just right; if it is too large, not only does the reaction process suffer, but heat transfer also becomes problematic. As the reactor is large, the heat capacity of both the equipment and the materials involved is high, resulting in greater heat transfer inertia. In the case of jacketed stirred-tank reactors, the heat transfer area does not increase in proportion to the volume, meaning that heating and cooling in larger reactors are not as fast or efficient as those in smaller reactors; And heat transfer is often one of the factors controlling quality. It is correct that the size of chemical reactors should be appropriate. In my opinion, it is possible to use larger reactors in order to increase production capacity, as long as this does not affect product quality, ensure safe production, or alter the process conditions. Many companies do indeed do this. For some products, consistency across batches is important; for example, in the dye industry, consistency in color and hue is crucial. It depends on what purpose it’s for. Generally, it’s better to have a larger mixing tank. The synthesis reactor is selected according to the process requirements.
