Carbon deposition on catalysts is inevitable. Under what conditions does carbon deposition occur in relatively large amounts? Where does it generally form – on the surface or in clusters?
Carbon buildup is caused by the polymerization of organic substances or incomplete combustion at high temperatures
There are generally two reasons for carbon buildup. One is an excessively high reaction temperature, which leads to polymerization of organic substances and thus carbon buildup; the other reason is a too low water-to-vapor ratio, with insufficient amount of steam being supplied, which also results in carbon buildup.
