Drain valves in wastewater treatment

There are not many control valves used in wastewater treatment; the main ones are drain valves! So what is this drain valve used for? I heard from the client that it’s for venting air; what use is this air in wastewater treatment? Thank you
I asked the customer, and he said it’s for exhaust use! ! I just asked some other people! ! I know it’s used to release air!
