The Boyuan coal-to-ethylene glycol project has commenced full-scale operation

On October 18, reporters learned from the administration of Xilin Gol League in Inner Mongolia that the third coal-based ethylene glycol project in the region – the 200,000-ton/year ethylene glycol project operated by Boyuan Investment Group’s Sunite Alkali Industry Company in Inner Mongolia – has begun construction on a full scale. Inner Mongolia is set to become an important production base for coal-based ethylene glycol in China. 　　It is reported that the total investment for Bo Yuan Investment Group’s 200,000 tons per year coal-based ethylene glycol production project at the Sunite Alkali Industry Company in Inner Mongolia is estimated to be 2.3 billion yuan. The project will be built in two phases; the first phase, which involves 100,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol production, is expected to begin single-unit testing in September 2012, with an investment of 1.3 billion yuan ； The second-phase 100,000-ton/year ethylene glycol project is planned to require an investment of 1 billion yuan. The project is located in Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia. It is currently in the phase of constructing underground pipelines and civil engineering works. An investment of 100 million yuan is planned for this year, with over 10 million yuan already invested from January to September. The project aims to begin trial operations by the end of 2012. It is understood that Boyuan Group has signed contracts with the U.S.-based company KBR for the transfer of gasification technology and the import of specialized equipment. It is also in negotiations with the Japanese company Ubiquitous Corporation regarding the transfer of technologies for dimethyl oxalate and ethylene glycol synthesis, as well as the design of related process packages. Additionally, it has signed a framework agreement with China’s Donghua Engineering Company for the overall project management. 　　This project uses world-class clean coal gasification technology to produce ethylene glycol, and is designed to utilize the waste gases from coal gasification to produce soda ash and baking soda, thereby achieving an organic integration of natural alkali chemical industry and coal chemical industry, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and fostering a low-carbon and circular economy. The construction of this project will lay a solid foundation for Boyuan Investment Group, a large-scale energy and chemical enterprise in Inner Mongolia, to adjust its product portfolio, adopt a circular economy approach, and achieve energy conservation and emission reduction. hcbbs ● ● ≈
