When using SW6 to calculate the tube sheet in a U-tube heat exchanger, it is necessary to enter the grooves in the shell side structure and those in the tube side structure. I’m not sure whether the two shoulders on the tube sheet should be considered as structural grooves; if so, would the nominal thickness of the tube sheet equal the calculated thickness plus the thickness of these structural grooves? When designing, what value in millimeters is generally used for these two shoulders? I’ve seen some units use 5 mm – is there any standard specification for this? Thank you!

We all perform calculations based on the structural grooving; the values used are those mentioned above. The nominal thickness also takes into account the corrosion allowance and the difference resulting from the structural grooving
