Winter is coming soon, and I’ve always thought that traps are not reliable in winter, as a small amount of water can accumulate inside them. In winters with temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees, this water can freeze up easily, which is very troublesome. It would be better to simply set the local drain to a slight open position to allow a small amount of steam to escape; although this represents some waste, it is at least safer, as freezing up could cause serious problems. I wonder what everyone’s thoughts and tips are?
It depends on the specific practices of each company. From the perspective of energy conservation and management standards, it is necessary to use traps and ensure proper insulation of the condensate system. Checking the trap system before winter arrives and replacing any defective traps is part of the routine measures taken to prevent freezing and maintain insulation before winter.
As the original poster said, there is also a slight backflow.
With proper insulation of the pipes and functional drain valves, freezing should not occur, after all it’s a steam pipeline.
If the temperature in your area isn’t very low during winter, it is recommended to use a steam trap. If the temperature drops below minus 20°, then direct drainage through backflow should be used; in our area, we simply use backflow for drainage throughout the winter, but insulation is still necessary
