For a 16\" flange with a flange cover, where the diameter of the opening in the center of the flange cover is 356, and external welding connections are provided – how should the thickness of the flange cover be calculated for this type of sleeve?
If the opening is too large, calculate it based on the flange
In this case, it can be calculated as if it were a flat-headed end cover; simply enter the diameter value of the opening in the flat head. I’m just wondering whether the value entered for the hole diameter refers to the outer diameter or the theoretical hole diameter
It mainly depends on the work pressure. Based on the dimensions you provided, the outer diameter of the pipe fitting is roughly the same as that of the flange; it would be better to use a reducer joint to weld directly the flange and the pipe fitting, thereby eliminating the need for a flange cover.
