Urgent request: 100% flaw detection is required for storage containers. The medium used is gas, and the inspection agency requires that surface flaw detection be carried out on pipe fittings with a diameter larger than DN150 before conducting airtightness tests. Our company does not have the necessary certification for surface flaw detection, so we are unable to issue reports. I would like to ask: is this inspection really necessary? I couldn’t find any relevant regulations in the container standards. Urgent response needed! ! Thank you here first! !

In accordance with clause f) of section 10.8.3 of GB150, surface inspection shall be carried out on the joints where pipes meet each other or where pipes meet flanges, provided that the nominal diameter is less than 250 mm and such joints are located on containers as specified in 10.8.2.1 (the owner’s requirements call for 100% flaw detection, which is in line with section 10.8.2.1 – containers that require 100% inspection per the design specifications). For ferromagnetic materials, magnetic particle testing is preferred.
The new fixed-volume regulations contain relevant provisions; you can take a look. As for how to do it, you can hire a professional non-destructive testing company to handle it. However, your company still needs to sign a non-destructive testing subcontract with them and conduct a qualification assessment (in writing). Meanwhile, if this approach is adopted over the long term, the documents related to non-destructive testing within the unit’s quality assurance system should also include provisions regarding outsourcing, evaluations of the testing parties, and management aspects.
What needs to be done should be carried out in accordance with GB150 and the new capacity regulations.
