A few days ago, I opened a new solenoid valve; the problem was that it could open but not close. I suspected a blockage, so I took it apart to check. Inside there were a screw, a plastic component, and sealing rings, as well as some substance that seemed to serve a lubricating purpose. Due to the cold weather, this substance appeared to be in a semi-solid state, and it was white in color. Later I removed them all, and after installing them the problem was resolved. Ask what that substance is; later, they planned to add some diesel as a lubricant, but an electrician said it wasn’t possible. He had never repaired solenoid valves before, and it seems that adding such a substance could cause the rubber to expand.

Lubricant is applied to the sealing ring, as the valve core moves frequently; the lubricant helps reduce frictional resistance and extends the lifespan of the valve core. When the weather gets cold, the lubricant freezes, blocking the sealing ring and preventing the valve core from functioning properly. I usually use a little butter.
What the original poster is referring to is the lubricant inside the ASCO solenoid valve. We encounter this problem quite often; it can be removed completely and then some butter can be added as a lubricant. As for whether the valve can open or not, it might be due to insufficient lubrication of the valve stem inside, or the fastening screws at the end being tightened too much, which prevents the solenoid valve from operating smoothly!
Reply to 5# Lingfei: The terminal screw is too tight; it’s very precise – that’s the issue. It works normally once it’s loosened.
It’s a lubricant; it was said before that it’s silicone oil. But you shouldn’t suspect that the problem lies with the oil, OP. When problems occur with valves in the north, it’s usually due to an unclean air supply or the presence of water
Similar to a lubricant, another possibility is that the air source is of poor quality.
