How are DI, DO, AI, and AO defined in a DCS? Is FSSLL considered a DO? Are AI, AO, DI, and DO relative to the DCS system?

AO refers to analog input, while DI refers to digital input; switch signals belong to digital signals. DO digital output has been corrected. :lol
AI analog input also includes thermal resistors and thermocouple cards

FSSLL is the low-low flow interlock signal; if this signal originates from an on-site flow switch, it should be a DI signal. If it is an internal signal of the DCS system, then DI and DO do not matter. Only the signals sent to on-site devices (such as valves, motors, etc.) are DO signals!
DI and DO are both digital signals, representing digital input and digital output respectively. AI and AO are analog signals, corresponding to analog input and analog output respectively. FSSLL is merely an internal digital value, generally used for indicating status or triggering actions. DI and DO, as well as AI and AO, are all external signal inputs used to control external devices
