Is it necessary to install a water injection line (with sulfur-containing wastewater) at the vapor phase line at the top of the fractionation tower in a delayed coking unit? Is it for continuous refilling, or only for washing out salt when salt crystallizes?
The key factors to consider are whether the salt content in the crude oil after desalting exceeds 4 mg/l, the degree of salt accumulation at the top of the coking distillation tower, and the plant’s requirements regarding the dry point of gasoline. If salt accumulation is not severe, it is recommended not to add water; our facility operates well without such addition, and it is likely that similar facilities in Zhenhai, Yangzi, Guangshi, Maoming, and other areas also do not use water. If the iron ion level in the sulfur-containing wastewater is high, it is advisable to use a low-temperature corrosion inhibitor, as this would be more effective.
