Dear sea friends: I would like to ask what are the differences between installing liquid pipelines and gas pipelines? For example, when installing gas pipes, if there are bends, can’t we use elbows for welding? Do we have to bend the pipe directly? I hope everyone can point out any other differences!
This seems to make no difference. I’m not sure where LZ got the idea that \"for example, when installing gas pipes, if there are bends, one can’t use elbows for welding and must bend the pipe directly\"; it seems there’s no such rule – elbows are always used in such cases. However, for pipelines used for pneumatic conveying of solid media, standard 1.5D elbows are not suitable; instead, 8-10D elbows are generally required.
There is no fundamental difference in installing liquid pipes and gas pipes; when gas pipes need to turn, 90-degree elbows are used for welding, rather than bending the pipes manually. In modern pipeline installation, all pipe fittings (elbows, tees, reducers, bosses, etc.) are prefabricated components. Incidentally, the gas pipes within the same unit are always larger than the liquid pipes; in units of 100,000 tons, the gas pipes can be several hundred millimeters long or even over 1,000 millimeters, making it impossible to bend them on-site.
The issue mentioned by the original poster – that there are situations during gas pipeline installation where bends cannot be welded using elbows and must be created by bending the pipe directly – does not exist. There seems to be only one difference between the installation of gas and liquid pipelines: gas branch pipes should be led out from above the main pipe, whereas this is not the case for liquid pipes
