What are the requirements to apply for registration as an engineer?

Teachers often say that one can become an engineer after starting work, and that the salary is good. It seems like high levels of skill and knowledge are required, but I’m not sure what we need to do in order to become engineers once we start working Does one have to be a worker first? ? ?
