Liquid oxygen will be transported from the air separation plant to our facility. The design for our oxygen station includes a 50-cubic-meter liquid oxygen storage tank, a liquid oxygen pump with an output pressure of 30 kilograms per square meter; the flow rate is yet to be determined. The vaporizer has a capacity of 600 cubic meters per hour and operates at a pressure of 30 kilograms per square meter. There is also an oxygen storage tank with a capacity of 30 cubic meters and a pressure of 20 kilograms per square meter. The length of the delivery pipelines is 100 meters. Is this design appropriate? For our oxygen station: 1. Do we need to have it designed by a company with specialized design qualifications before we can start construction? 2. Does the construction of this project require a company with the necessary qualifications for installing pressure pipelines? If it indeed constitutes a pressure pipeline, then which category does it fall under?
That’s for sure; this station can only be called an oxygen station, not an “oxygen production station”.
So what kind of design firms have the qualifications to carry out design work?
Hello, I am a process engineer specializing in the design of air stations. Currently, the design of air stations for Air Products is handled by our company, with me being the main designer. The oxygen station of your company must be designed by an engineering firm that holds a qualification certificate for pressure pipeline design in order to proceed with construction. If the design pressure of the pipelines is based on that of the oxygen tanks, in accordance with the Regulations on the Design Approval of Pressure Vessels and Pressure Pipelines (TSG R1001-2008) and the Technical Supervision Regulations for Pressure Pipelines – Industrial Pipelines (TSG D0001-2009), the design pressure for your company’s oxygen pipelines is 0.8 MPa; oxygen pipelines with a nominal diameter greater than DN25 are classified as GC3 under the pressure pipeline classification system.
