How to acquire practical skills

I study automation, and at my workplace I was assigned to the boiler room; then the manager asked me to get familiar with the control systems and instruments. But there isn’t even a technician available; the control systems for the boiler room and everything else are already in place. I know it’s a HIC-1000 from Harbin Institute of Technology and COSCO Industrial Control, but I have no idea where to start learning how to use it. I really hope everyone can give me some advice. Thank you!
I suggest you first read the manuals for the system and instruments carefully, while learning about the processes and equipment. Once you have gained some knowledge, take advantage of maintenance opportunities to practice more in order to make real progress!
What does it mean to have practical skills? A person with normal physical fitness and normal thinking already possesses practical abilities. Our daily life and work are both practical activities. Just go do it, participate, think, and learn*. That’s all.
