Steel structure design

This post was last edited by zyz8438 on 2010-11-13 at 20:47. I have just started working on steel structure design, and I don’t have any reference drawings available yet. Where should the design begin? To what extent? I hope experts can give some advice! !

1. Read books such as the *Steel Structure Design Manual* (3rd edition), *Principles of Steel Structure Design* by Chen Shaofan, the *Construction Manual for Building Steel Structures*, the *Design Manual for Loads on Building Structures* (2nd edition), the *Compilation of Design Drawings for Building Structures – Steel Structures* (★Foundation), the *Guide to Light Steel Structure Design* (with examples and diagrams), and the *Newly Revised Steel Structure Design Manual*.
2. Study various codes and compilation documents such as 08CG03 *Examples of Light Steel Structure Design*, CECS102-2002 *Technical Code for Light Steel Structure Buildings with Portal Frames*, GB 50011-2001 *Code for Seismic Design of Buildings*, 06CG04 *Examples of Steel Structure Design – Single-Story Industrial Buildings*, JGJ 81-2002 *Technical Code for Welding of Building Steel Structures* (with explanatory notes), and HGT 21610-1996 *Standard Diagrams for Commonly Used Joints in Hot-Rolled Ordinary Steel Sections* (welded connections).
3. Find reference drawings online, from sites like tgnet and similar.
4. Obtain more standardized reference drawings from your workplace. Read more, ask questions, and keep learning. Design work should be carried out in accordance with the specified procedures, step by step, which helps to reduce the need for rework

Two codes related to steel structures are missing on the 2nd floor: GB50017-2003 \"Code for Design of Steel Structures\" and GB50018-2002 \"Technical Code for Cold-Formed Thin-Walled Steel Structures\". Additionally, if the person in charge really cannot find the drawings, they can download some from NetEase Civil Engineering Online.
