Does a ball valve have an installation direction? Is there any difference in flow rate during operation when installed in reverse?
Most don’t; some ball valves have a directionality
Generally, they are divided into hard-sealed ball valves and soft-sealed ball valves. For soft-sealed ball valves, there is essentially no direction of flow. In those with both hard and soft sealing, the flow direction is usually from soft to hard. Hard-sealed ball valves come in types with two-way sealing, and it’s the same as mentioned above; track ball valves, on the other hand, have a defined direction of flow
Generally, there is no installation direction, but if there is an arrow on it, it should be installed in the direction indicated by the arrow
Some ball valves generally don’t require consideration of orientation when they are installed, and I would also like to learn more about ball valves that do require such consideration.....
As mentioned on the 3rd floor, some ball valves have a directionality. The flow rate of a ball valve varies depending on whether it is installed in the correct or reverse direction; the flow rate is higher when installed correctly. Our factory has encountered the situation where ball valves were installed in the wrong direction, which caused cavitation in the pump, an increase in the pump’s temperature, and ultimately its shutdown.
Ordinary ball valves don’t have them; those that do have arrows marked on the valve……
Ball valves have no installation direction; installing them in either orientation does not affect flow rate. However, as a rule of thumb, the flow direction should be consistent with the direction in which the handle points when the valve is fully open

It is determined by the structure of the ball valve; the key factor is whether it can still remain sealed when installed in the reverse direction. Some ball valves have a single seat, and they definitely won’t work if installed backwards
