I am facing a difficult problem in the pipeline design for a salt mine project, and I would appreciate it if experienced colleagues could offer their guidance. Medium: Industrial brine (containing chloride ions); pipeline pressure: 10 Mpa. Previously, the material used for our pipeline valves was 316 stainless steel, but the client raised an issue stating that this material is prone to corrosion. I’m not sure which material would be good now? Please help come up with some ideas.
Industrial brine containing chloride ions can cause intergranular corrosion in stainless steel. When selecting a material, price factors also need to be taken into consideration. Choosing the right material is certainly no problem:,lol but the price must also satisfy the customer. Consider 317 (or 317L) stainless steel! (Personal opinion, for reference only. )
For the pipe and valve seat in the building, use 20 grade; for the valve core, use 15CrMo. That’s sufficient
Use fluorinated-lined valves, or plastic CPVC valves
Diaphragm valves can be used for the valves, and fluorinated pipes can be used for the pipelines. It is sufficient to use 20# steel for the pipes, with an increased wall thickness.

Duplex steel has decent resistance to chloride ions, but it is expensive; carbon steel is a better choice. . . Replace it if it’s broken
Using 310S material is fine; for the valves, CK20 material is chosen, which is a bit more expensive than 316.
Reply to 1# chenka2008: You can choose duplex stainless steel, with a surface coating of Halar or nylon. It has good corrosion resistance.
