How should the calculation pressure be determined in the calculation of non-standard flanges? For example, if the equipment pressure is 5.0 MPa, then when calculating the design pressure for flanges on custom-made equipment or pipe connections, what value should be used for that design pressure? I heard that it’s not possible to use the device’s designed pressure; instead, some kind of coefficient needs to be applied, but I can’t find any source for this information. Thank you all!
I’ve never heard of any coefficient that needs to be multiplied by; in some cases, only the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column needs to be added, etc

The design pressure for non-standard flanges should be taken as the design pressure of the cylinder to which the flange is connected, that is, the main body. When calculating the gasket compression force Fp, p is generally taken as the design pressure, i.e., plus the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid column. For testing, the test pressure should be used. After calculating the axial stress, circumferential stress, radial stress, and bending moment based on the compression force under various conditions, a verification can be carried out. The original poster can calculate a flange using SW6 and then check the calculations provided in the report.
