Should a flange cover be used for the post-weld heat treatment of pressure vessels? If the equipment forging material requires simulated post-weld heat treatment. So is simulated post-weld heat treatment required when purchasing flange covers?
In my opinion, post-weld heat treatment is intended to eliminate welding stresses; since flange covers are not welded, they naturally do not require heat treatment. Simulated heat treatment is used to mimic the effects that heat treatment might have on the material, thereby reducing its strength while increasing its impact toughness. It is fine if the flange cover is not subjected to simulated heat treatment.
It is not necessary; the flange cover is connected to the main body of the equipment using fasteners. Heat treatment after welding is carried out to eliminate the residual stresses resulting from welding.
