Extraction is the process of removing unwanted components from a fluid under low pressure, such as volatile substances, non-condensable gases, or dissolved gases, in order to eliminate certain materials.
Aromatic extraction is a unit that follows the reforming process; its purpose is to separate the aromatics from the reformate gasoline. The aromatic extraction process includes steps such as removal of heavy components, extraction, washing of non-aromatic compounds, solvent stripping, stripping of wash water, solvent recovery, washing of aromatics, and solvent regeneration

Extraction refers to the use of a selective solvent to dissolve specific components in a mixture, and then employing distillation to separate those components dissolved in the solvent, thereby achieving the separation of mixtures that are difficult to separate using conventional distillation methods. In terms of benzene extraction, it is generally divided into single-benzene extraction, dual-benzene extraction (benzene and toluene), and triple-benzene extraction (benzene, toluene, and xylene). From a process perspective, it is divided into liquid-liquid extraction and extraction distillation (SED). The solvent used is generally sulfolane.
