Are there any orientation requirements for the metal washers used with ordinary bolts such as M5 and M6? I see that one side of the gasket is flat while the other side has a certain curvature
Ordinary gaskets are flat gaskets that have no orientation.
Generally, there isn’t one, but it is recommended that if one side is flat while the other is curved, the flat side should face the flange and the curved side should face the nut.

What the original poster said, that “one side of the gasket is flat while the other side has a certain degree of curvature,” is actually not true – both sides are flat. Any slight curvature that may exist is due to the stamping process, and it’s minimal; it doesn’t matter for the upper flange, as either side will work fine.

It is actually a flat washer, with no distinct front or back side.
The curvature at the edge of the gasket is left over from the manufacturing process and has no directionality.
I’ve seen an imported fastening kit before (let’s call it that for now), whose gaskets came in both flat and curved versions (they’re actually called elastic gaskets). Each set comes with instructions during installation, stating how many units to install and how to install each one, whether face to face or back to back.
The metal gaskets used for bolts such as M5 and M6 are generally flat and have no orientation; the curvature mentioned by the original poster is also, in my opinion, a result of manufacturing defects, belonging to processing issues rather than design or usage problems~~~~
The visual curvature is due to the curved surface formed during the stamping process!
