I just got the FLUKE 725, and I found that it’s not very useful for measurements. When trying to measure the MV signal of thermocouples, the display keeps changing, and it’s also impossible to measure resistance. I have the manual, but even by following the instructions, I can’t use it properly – is it because I don’t know how to use it?

This is very simple. Just be careful: when measuring the thermocouple, make sure the connections are secure, and use the appropriate connector for plugging it in.
Why does the mv signal keep changing when it’s measured?
Firstly, the FLUKE725 is primarily used for calibration, with its measurement function serving as a supplementary feature. Second, the stability of the mV signal is related to various factors, including wiring and surrounding signal interference. If it is to measure the mV value of a thermocouple, I personally think a millivoltmeter is better. Third, the FLUKE725 has a poor ability to measure resistances, covering only values from a little over ten ohms to several thousand ohms, and this is due to the functional limitations of its design. If you need to measure resistance over a wide range, use a high-precision multimeter or a dedicated bridge.
Thank you for the reply from above. At that time, I was using a multimeter set to the 200mV range to measure a K-type thermocouple at room temperature, and the readings weren’t very accurate. I saw this instrument and thought I could use it, but it turned out to be ineffective, so I decided to give it a try. The person above mentioned that the FLUKE725 has poor resistance measurement capabilities, but surely it should be able to provide some reading, right? I set it to 250 ohms using a resistance box, but the FLUKE725 couldn’t detect it! ?
OP, I’ve been using the 725 for six years now, and it’s still very convenient for measuring signals. You need to read the instructions carefully. Additionally, when measuring the MV signal, interference must be prevented.

You should take a close look at the connection point – it’s strange if it isn’t tight enough. The MV signal is prone to interference; if you’re measuring with a thermocouple, simply measure the temperature and choose the appropriate type of thermocouple.
