When installing a flow meter, if the straight pipe lengths before and after the inlet and outlet do not meet the requirements of 10D in front and 5D behind, will it really have an impact on measurement accuracy?
It has an impact. The pressure difference before and after the flow meter is converted into a flow indication; if the flow pattern in the pipeline is unstable, it may have an impact on the pressures before and after the flow meter, thereby affecting its accuracy. Personal opinion!
Of course it has an impact; otherwise, why go to the trouble of establishing such rules?
Different flowmeters have different requirements, depending on the type of flowmeter in question. But in most cases, there is a requirement for a certain distance between the flowmeter and the surrounding components. The V-cone type flowmeters seem to require no such straight pipe section, while some mass flowmeters don’t have any such requirements.
