Dear sea friends! Recently, our company has noticed leakage from the bottom valve of the stainless steel reactor. Previously, rubber gaskets and mechanical seals were used, but leakage continued even after the valve was tightened. I’m wondering if anyone here has any effective solutions to this problem!
What kind of valves are these? The ball valves we use often suffer from the problem of the valve core not sealing properly, as well as loose sealing gaskets.
We are using stainless steel upward and downward valves, but the sealing is not very good; we really want to find a solution, ideally by modifying these valves.
First, ask where it’s leaking from Is it leaking downstream from the valve? Is it still leaking from the connection flange?
It’s not a leak at the flange; it’s probably the leak you mentioned downstream, caused mainly by poor sealing, which leads to liquid dripping down.
It’s then a problem with the quality of the valve. Generally, with valves that have soft seals, this kind of leakage does not occur; it is likely that the valves in use at your site have metal seals and their sealing capacity is insufficient. Of course, if it is a soft-sealed valve, then it is necessary to check whether your medium is compatible with the valve seat; otherwise, over time either the valve seat will swell or a part of it will dissolve, resulting in internal leakage at the valve seat. In short, it’s best to disassemble the valve to check it and prevent potential accidents.
Perhaps the medium has corroded the rubber pad; check the temperature and corrosiveness of the medium to see if it is suitable
It’s possible that the material is leaking due to long-term rubber aging and cracking; could replacing the rubber gaskets regularly help?
