What effects can excessive conductivity, iron ions, and ammonia levels in boiler feedwater have on the boiler or drum? Will it affect the quality of the steam produced?
A high conductivity of the boiler feed water can lead to a deterioration in steam quality, affecting subsequent steam-using equipment. Iron ions must be removed before desalination of boiler water and should not be included in the boiler water parameters. A high ammonia content results in high alkalinity in boiler water, which can affect steam quality and sometimes cause alkaline corrosion.
