I have a different opinion: a failure in a random inspection only proves that the instrument was not up to standard at that time, but it may still be compliant during the regular calibration. Since the calibration is valid, there is no reason to revoke the previous certification. Revoking it would also mean denying the calibration agency its right to carry out its duties properly. Moreover, any measuring instrument can malfunction while in use, and if it does, it will certainly fail the calibration; yet revoking the previous certificate would not be appropriate from a management perspective.
