The company needed to clean the tank, so the boss used steam to do it; it took two hours, and as a result the monomers in the accumulated oil polymerized. The tank has no discharge valve, only one manhole, and it is horizontal in design. My original suggestion was to add water and use steam to vaporize it. The temperature does not need to be very high; 60°C is sufficient. This allows the monomer to float on the surface, after which vacuum can be applied. After reviewing many guidelines on tank cleaning, I feel that using steam for displacement isn’t very effective, as it takes a long time. I’m not sure if my method will work The company only has steam; it has no other available materials.
What about dry/wet methods or using chemical solvents? That still doesn’t work! What should I do?
