I’ll give a brief summary based on my own experience. I’m only in the second grade, haha... The direct factor for upgrading is an increase in points, which are calculated as a weighted sum of several factors. (The formula for calculating points is: Points = Charm + Prestige*5 + Contributions*10 + Online time (hours)/120 + Number of valid posts/100.) For those of us in the first or second grade who don’t have much material to upload and can’t create very interesting posts, the way to upgrade is by earning wealth. The way to earn wealth is by posting or replying to others’ posts; when someone rates our posts, they add wealth to our account. With more wealth, we can exchange it for charm, and each unit of charm adds one point to our total score. Note that the wealth used for rating posts is provided by the system, so we don’t need to pay anything out of our own pocket (so there’s no need to be stingy when rating others’ posts). The specific distribution is as follows: Grade | Amount of wealth available for rating per 24 hours: Unregistered new members: 0; First graders at Haichuan Primary School: 5 (maximum +1 per rating); Second graders: 12 (maximum +2 per rating); Third graders: 30 (maximum +3 per rating); Fourth graders: 50 (maximum +4 per rating); Fifth graders: 60 (maximum +5 per rating). My experience was as follows: After asking a few questions on the forum, I ran out of things to ask for a while. The professional questions posed by others were either beyond my understanding or not of interest to me. As a result, I didn’t post anything for several days and thus didn’t earn any wealth. One day, I came across a “Daily Translation” thread in the General English section (I’m quite interested in English). The moderator would provide a question, either to be translated from English to Chinese or from Chinese to English. I replied with my translation, and to my surprise, several people rated my answer, giving me more than ten units of wealth right away. Additionally, signing in every day also allows you to earn some wealth randomly. Today, I found that I had 56 units of wealth, so I used 40 of them to exchange for 4 units of charm (there’s a tax involved in the exchange process, so I actually spent 43 units of wealth). As a result, my point total increased by 4.
